Back to school time is right around the corner, and to help soften the blow on parent's wallets, so is sales tax free weekend. July 25th and 26th are the days that Mississippi's 7% sales tax won't be charged at stores across the state.
The discount only applies to clothing and shoes that are priced less than $100. That's bad news for shoppers expecting to save a little money at the new Michael Kors outlet store opening Thursday at the Gulfport Premium Outlet Mall, but many similar stores will still be offering incentives and discounts to the back to school shoppers. Mall officials expect heavy crowds, and offer some helpful tips for tax free weekend shoppers.
Rhonda Roberts, the Director of Marketing for the Gulfport Premium Outlet Mall, says, "You always want to go online first. Here we go to premiumoutlets.com, pick out the stores you want to visit, print out the map, kind of make a plan where you want to go. You also want to print out coupons, the V.I.P. Shopper Club, you want those additional sales to include with what's going on for back to school.”
Mall officials have called this weekend the Black Friday of school shopping, and ask shoppers to prepare accordingly.
