Many residents of the neighborhood in downtown Gulfport came outside after they say they heard four to five gunshots at the intersection of South Carolina Avenue and Polk Street. Investigators for Gulfport Police were on scene and determined that the victim was shot more than once. Both the suspect and victim, believed to live in the area, fled the scene. Sergeant Damon McDaniel of the Gulfport Police says, "Our initial investigation leads us to believe and understand that an altercation took place between the victim and suspect, resulting in gunshots being passed between the two individuals. The victim that was struck several times did flee on foot. We do not know what led to the altercation, but that's what we have at this point and we do know we have at least one victim." The investigation is ongoing.
