Senior citizens from all over Jackson County came to celebrate Christmas in Pascagoula with friends, food, and dance. Ilka Robertson, a line dancer, says, "It's a good exercise program and it turned out to be a good dancing group and we have a good time and we're just trying to lift everyone and have a good time." The upbeat Pascagoula line dancers were just one headline at the annual winter event put on by several companies that are geared towards senior health care. Vivian Champaigne, the Chairperson, says, "Now this is Christmas Around the World, where we are celebrating the different countries and how they celebrate Christmas, and if you look at our center pieces in our senior area, all the tables have ‘Merry Christmas’ in different languages." The event was not only to celebrate Christmas, but also offer seniors information for the future. Roxann Davidson, the Nursing Center Administrator, says, "To make our seniors aware of the services that are available to them with healthcare, nursing facilities, and hospice companies. We just want the public to know we are here for them." Seniors say events like these are crucial in helping bring together the community for the holidays. Cynthia Brown, a senior citizen, says, "You meet a lot of good people. You get a lot of information you don't have, but you will need, so it’s a wonderful event for everybody, all the senior citizens." Citizens who attended received free merchandise and a meal.
