Friday, about 40 family members gathered in Pass Christian to remember Sandy Le. The 25 year old woman died in Austin this on March 17th after being struck by a suspected drunk driver last week during the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. Family members have erected a vigil to the young woman in her Pass Christian home. A wake was held Friday night for Le at Riemann Family Funeral Home in Long Beach from 6 to 9 p.m. and was open to the public. Her funeral is being held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Pass Christian and is also open to the public.
Family members say they want Le to be remembered as the caring person she was. Stuart Gates, Le’s brother-in-law, says, “One thing that is just typical of Sandy is that she was an organ donor, and we received word that the organs that she was donating have all found recipients. So that’s just mind blowing because she might not be with us, but she’s still helping people and we are all proud of that fact.” There has been an outpouring of support for Le's family through social media. An online fund has been set up to raise money for Le's medical and funeral costs. If you would like to make a donation, go to www.fundly.com/assistance-for-sandy-le.
