Former Diamondhead City Manager, Richard Rose has come forward with recordings that he said proves Mayor Tommy Schafer acted unethically.

Diamondhead citizens are concerned over the Rose’s claim against the City of Diamondhead. Councilman Joseph Lopez and Thomas Sislow are holding a town meeting the night of June 11 to allow citizens to ask any questions they may have about Rose or other city matters.

Lopez and Silslow expect a big turn-out. Though the meeting was not called to specifically discuss Rose, citizens can ask Councilmen about anything pertaining to the city.
Rose’s attorney, Jim Halliday, shared audio recordings with News 25 that he said proves Mayor Schafer acted unethically.
Transcript of Recording (according to Richard Rose):
RICHARD ROSE: “You told me not to call these people anymore.”
TOMMY SCHAFER: “And I’m gonna tell you to quit calling them. I’ll tell you again to quit calling. Do your job. You do not need to call individual Councilmen to do your job.”

Rose said the voice on this recorder is that of Schafer’s demanding Rose to cease communication with all city Councilmen, so that the Schafer could have more control over the city business.

Transcript of Recording (according to Richard Rose):
TOMMY SCHAFER: “When you tell me, don’t you ever [explicit] call Sislow again, and don’t you ever [explicit] call the Council again—and whose side are you on? That upset me, you know? That upset me.”
RICHARD ROSE: “Do you want to go to war over it?”

Rose said his refusing to follow that Mayor’s unethical requests quickly led to a hostile work environment. Rose says his suspension as City Manager on April 23, came out of left field. He was terminated six weeks later after the city said he was ineffective at his job.

“I had never been previously noticed by the Mayor or Council regarding any issues with my performance, not a single solitary time,” said Rose.

Rose and his attorney have filed suit against the City of Diamondhead. Rose is awaiting a response from the City as he fights to defend his work practices and his good name.
