The Chevron Refinery, celebrating 50 years of operation, is wrapping up its base oil project. Construction for the project began in 2011 and it will bring base oil production to the Pascagoula location. The refinery is the largest tax payer in Jackson County and the construction project has generated about 200 million dollars in goods and services in the local community. Alan Sudduth, Public Affairs for Chevron Pascagoula Refinery, says, “The Pascagoula base oil project is a 1.4 million dollar investment by Chevron. When this project is complete, we are targeting mechanical completion by the end of this year, we will be able to produce about 25 thousand barrels of base oil per day. That will make Chevron the largest producer of premium base oil in the world.” Since its beginning, the project has created over 2,000 jobs here on the Coast.
