While other people in South Mississippi were watching the Super Bowl on Feb. 2, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter from the Perkinston Campus visited the Wild At Heart Rescue Center in Pass Christian. The group of 16 chapter members and instructors helped make improvements at the center and were even able to help with animal rescue.

Following the instructions from rescue center personnel, the PBL members helped clean the center, removed piles of debris and performed other tasks. While the group was at the rescue center, a call to pick up an injured pelican was received. Members of PBL were able to be a part of the pelican’s retrieval, treatment and aftercare.

“Although the weather was not the best, students and instructors worked through the rainy conditions,” said Sadie Hebert, chapter sponsor. “Members were able to learn a great deal about animal care and about the hard work that goes into running a rescue. We would like to extend our thanks to the Wild At Heart Rescue Center for being kind enough to let us work with them.”
