The original palms were dedicated to the fallen soldiers back in 1919, but were washed away during Hurricane Katrina. The new park is the work of the Biloxi Chamber Chairman, Errol Bradley, and district one supervisor, Windy Swetman. The re-dedication ceremony included an un-veiling of a new monument by Biloxi mayor, AJ Holloway. The new monument is in honor of all who have served. Wilfred Vincent Caillavet, a WWII veteran, says, "It’s awesome, really awesome. It makes you feel good, even when you feel bad, it makes you feel good." Swetman says, "Now this is a memorial in this park to all of our veterans, not just the 12 men who gave their lives from Biloxi, but for all of our Biloxians." After the ceremony, VFW 2434 served a Biloxi-themed lunch of fried fish and shrimp, and of course, Barq's rootbeer.
