Once again, the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce – Main Street – Tourism Bureau, along with hundreds of thousands of other cities around the nation, will celebrate the economic impact of the hospitality industry on our local community during National Travel and Tourism Week, May 3rd through 11th, 2014.
Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce-Main Street-Tourism Bureau will host “Ocean Springs Day” at the Jackson County Welcome Center on Tuesday, May 6th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to showcase all our town has to offer to travelers from all over the world. We will be promoting our “totally locally” campaign of our “Ocean Springs Currency” a.k.a. Pelican Pounds, which are wooden coins valued at $5 to spend at local businesses downtown, uptown, all around town.
A booth will be set up offering tasty samples from some of the more than 100 restaurants, artwork from a variety of shops, giveaways and informational pieces about shops, restaurants, galleries and outdoor recreation activities to invite tourists to Ocean Springs. Local businesses are encouraged to take part and join the Ocean Springs Chamber at the Welcome Center.
“This is a great opportunity to market the City,” said Margaret Miller, executive director of the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce – Main Street – Tourism Bureau.
Each year, tourism brings in millions of dollars annually to Mississippi. According to the Jackson and Hancock County Welcome Centers, more than 60,000 tourists visit the two welcome centers monthly on average.
