GULFPORT—Some teachers and students in Harrison County will be going to a new school this upcoming school year.

Construction has been underway on River Oaks Elementary School for more than a year and a half.

The school board broke ground on the project in December of 2012. The new elementary school is located on Three Rivers Road in Gulfport. The facility will have 35 classrooms, offices, a library, cafeteria and gymnasium.

Harrison County School District Superintendent Henry Arledge said, “They are on track, it does look like to me. We have a few minor punch list things that have to be done, but they are on track and should be ready to go.”

The new school can house 900 students and has room to expand.
