The Gulf Islands National Seashore Park in Ocean Springs is one of the parks that have finally re-opened. The park had planned on participating in the Mississippi Coastal Cleanup this weekend, however with the shutdown just ending on Thursday, the park did not have enough time to prepare for the cleanup. An employee of the Gulf Island National Seashore Park who wishes to remain anonymous says, “So not having this coastal cleanup means it will be another six months before we can get a large group of people to help pick up. It will have a negative effect on our lands and waters. All that trash that is left on the islands and the bayous will eventually travel out in to the open ocean, none of which is good for our sea life.”
