The voting phase of the Biloxi Baseball Club’s “Name the Team” contest has ended with nearly 60,000 votes having been cast through the team’s website.

The name and logo of Biloxi’s professional baseball team will be announced sometime in the fall after the name has gone through the approval, trademark, and logo development processes.

“Thanks to everyone for being so passionate about this process,” stated team General Manager Buck Rogers. “The team name and logo are going to represent this region very proudly. We are very excited to move on to the next step in our evolution.”

After more than 4000 suggestions were submitted in the early phase of the contest, the final list was pared down to the six most popular names that people suggested. In alphabetical order, the finalists were: Beacon, Black Jacks, Mullets, Schooners, Shrimpers, and Shuckers.

A grand total of 59,769 votes came in during the month-long voting phase from around the world, including Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Israel, Germany, Italy and Bahrain. In fact, votes were received from six continents (North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
