A welder working on an fish oil tank is dead and three others are injured after the tank exploded. The accident happened before 9:40 a.m. at the Omega Protein plant in Moss Point just off of Elder Ferry Road. Omega Protein Corporation is a producer of omega-3 fish oil and North America's largest manufacturer of protein-rich specialty fishmeal and organic fish solubles. The plant employs about 300 people.

According to information provided to News 25 from Moss Point Fire Chief Tommy Posey the men were doing repairs and re-enforcement work when the top blew off one of the five tanks they were working on.

Jackson County Coroner, Vicki Broadus, identified 25 year old, Jerry Lee Taylor II, of Mobile, as the man who was killed in the incident.

Posey says all of the men were outside contractors and not employees of Omega Protein Plant. Officials are releasing no information at this time. Members of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (O.S.H.A.) are expected to arrive on the scene before 3 p.m. to investigate the scene.

News 25 was told all of the employees were sent home after the explosion.

The last fatal accident at Omega Protein involving a worker was in 2012. At that time, 24 year old, Christopher Allen Herbert, was killed when he was working inside a piece of equipment and another worker started the machine.
