The Moss Point Fire Department spent the morning loading fire trucks with holiday gifts they would deliver to local senior citizens. The gifts came from the Be a Santa for a Senior program that is put on by Home Instead Senior Care. Mary Sukiennik is the owner of the franchise and says the program was geared toward citizens who are alone on Christmas. She says, "They're either low income or they don't have families at all and are lonely at Christmas and this is our way of making sure they have something to open on Christmas." Clarence Parks, the Moss Point Fire Chief, says, "I think we had a total of 30 or 31 total in Moss Point, but this reaches a much wider area than Moss Point, but we were primarily concerned with our citizens here in Moss Point." There were about 50 volunteers that helped collect and wrap the gifts in Jackson and Harrison Counties. Over 160 senior citizens received gifts.
