The lights were on at Greyhound Stadium in Ocean Springs, but the football team was nowhere to be found. Hundreds of people were in attendance at the stadium to see the Mississippi Sound Spectacular, a competition style marching band and drum corps show.
Several bands were there from all over the country, waiting for their chance to show that they are the best in the country at what they do. Many of the bands in this show are headed for the world championships in August, being held at the home of the Colts, Lucas Oil Stadium. These bands are called World Class Drum Corps for a reason, and officials are glad to have brought it to Mississippi.
Joe Cacibauda, Executive Director of the Mississippi Sound Spectacular, says, "This show is about young people becoming better musicians, and actually taking pageantry and music and the marching skills. They are marching band music's major league, and it's like Broadway on the field.”
These bands spend all summer honing their skills, and many have been practicing since last fall.
