Friday night, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources hosted a Great American Seafood Cook-Off to name Mississippi's top seafood chef. Proceeds from the event will go to St. John's Charity, Extra Table Charity, and food pantries throughout southern Mississippi.
People gathered at the Slavonian Lodge in Biloxi to sample some of the best seafood on the Coast. Friday night’s event was about more than just great food. Proceeds will go to a variety of charities in south Mississippi. One of the charities, Extra Table, has teamed up with Feed My Sheep, Loaves and Fishes, Our Daily Bread, St. Gerard Community Outreach, and The Lord is My Help to push donated dollars further. During the event, those in attendance could also donate to the American Red Cross to help tornado victims in north Mississippi. The winner of the cook-off will represent Mississippi in the Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans later this summer.
