Surprisingly, many plants are safe during below freezing temperatures outdoors. For the others, Fraiser's Florist and Nursery in Biloxi uses greenhouses covered in plastic to keep their nursery safe from the cold and frost. Barbara Mayberry, a florist, says, "For the plants that need protection, we have greenhouses and we cover them with plastic. We do this at this time of year every year no matter what the weather's going to be just in case, and then most everything else can stay out in the yard." Mayberry says now is the time to plant trees and perennials if you want to see them sprout by spring.
