On July 1st, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, also known as SB-2681, will go into effect and the door to discrimination being legal in the State of Mississippi will be opened.

For this reason, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lesbian & Gay Community Center will team together with faith leaders and activists from across the state to host the Backfire Bonfire at Biloxi Beach on Highway 90 next to the Comfort Station, across from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

"This will prepare us for the fight that we have ahead of us in which silence will play no part. We will need our voices to be heard in the coming months and years, so this is our time to stand together and ready ourselves for the fight." -Jeff White-Perkins

The protest will start at 6:30 p.m. and go on until 7:30 p.m. on July 1, 2014. Speakers will include Constance Gordon – A.C.L.U. of MS Youth of Color, Rev. Martin Todd Allen, Jeff White-Perkins & Jena Pierce of M.G.C.L.G.C.C., and Constance McMillen.
