Tuesday night, Moss Point and Jackson County Police are took some time off from the streets, and had a night out on the town. The night out event brings police, city officials, and residents together for some good times, prizes, and safety demonstrations.

Police forces from all over Jackson County set up booths at Pelican Landing in Moss Point in an effort to both educate the community and get to know them a little better. The night out event brings police and citizens together for a carnival like atmosphere where games, prizes, and McGruff the crime dog are the norm. There were also booths set up to educate citizens on just how they plan to keep them safe and secure.

No party would be complete without door prizes and three lucky kids took home a brand new PS4, and one of those three won the grand prize, a 40 inch flat screen for their new game system. Interim Police Chief Art McClung hopes this event will strengthen his department's relationship with the community.

McClung says, “It's extremely important that every encounter the police have is not an encounter where we're putting someone in jail, or give somebody a ticket. That's just a minute portion of our job. Our job is to protect and serve the people.”
