The long-term lease also includes plans for a 400 room hotel and convention center. Both parties met in the Island View showroom to sign the agreement, which affirms the Island View's commitment to invest no less than 30 million to renovate its hotel property on the south side of Highway 90. Mississippi Port Authority C.E.O., Jonathan Daniels, says the agreement does not only benefit the parties involved, but the city of Gulfport as a whole. Daniels believes the new project will boost Gulfport's tourism industry. The Island View owners, Rick Carter and Terry Green, say the financing for the development is secure and that they're planning a 50 million dollar investment to transform the property. Terry Green, co-owner of Island View Casino, says, "The plans are about half way done. We're starting to bid out certain phases of the project, but we'll probably start construction and demolition inside the hotel, probably in the next two to three weeks."
