Icy Pints Athletics, or I.P.A., kicked off MayFest Friday night with a 5k fun run in Ocean Springs. Runners of all ages ran alone and with their children to complete the 3.2 mile course. I.P.A. meets every Thursday for a two or three mile run, followed by drinks at Mosaics. Friday, Mosaics and I.P.A. teamed up to host a 5k through downtown Ocean Springs. Mosaics owner, Arturo Barajas, says he has been a part of MayFest for eight years now, but wanted to find a way to do something different.
Barajas says, “I just really wanted to add something that was besides fun, healthy, and I just shared that with the Icy Pints Athletics running club and they wanted to jump on board. We did our first run last year. I think we had about 240 people last year.” The 5k started at 7:00 with live music and a pub crawl followed. MayFest started up again on Saturday with music, vendors, and food all weekend. Two stages host local and national acts, and restaurants and stores throughout downtown Ocean Springs will be running specials.
