Singing River Health System (S.R.H.S.) has two physical therapists that have recently been recognized as board certified specialists for orthopedic rehabilitation by the American Physical Therapy Association (A.P.T.A.).

Brandon Cloud, PT, O.C.S. and David Greer, DPT, O.C.S. were awarded the board certified orthopedic specialty in June.

The A.P.T.A. developed the specialist certification to promote the highest level of care for individuals needing physical therapy. Therapists obtaining the certification have demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and skill with orthopedic rehabilitation. This certification requires that the physical therapist stay up-to-date with current research and treatment techniques, offering patients the peace of mind that their individual rehabilitation programs are based on evidence based practice.

“Having three board certified orthopedic specialists spread across Jackson County will give patients easy access to physical therapists that have advanced skills and training for the best in patient care. These therapists have serious determination and ambition to provide the best physical therapy services to the community,” said Could, Assistant Director of Rehabilitation Services at S.R.H.S. and newly board certified occupational specialist.

In 2013, there were only 17 therapists in the state of Mississippi recognized as board certified specialists. Throughout the country there were less than 70 physical therapists awarded this distinction in the last year.

This certification requires that the physical therapist have at least 2,000 hours of clinical practice and successfully pass a rigorous six hour exam. Cloud and Greer have been preparing for the exam for over a year by participating in study groups, attending continuing education courses and integrating that information into their clinical practice. As part of this certification, they will be working with fellow staff members to share best practices for excellent outcomes for all patients.

Cloud and Greer are joining Greg Ball, PT, O.C.S. as part of Singing River Health System’s board certified orthopedic physical therapy specialists. These specialists can be found in the following locations:

Encore plans on continuing their support of assisting their therapists to achieve high levels of distinction for patient care.
