The expansion of the Hard Rock has locals buzzing about the future of Biloxi's economy. Music filled the air at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi during the celebration. The casino unveiled its latest expansion, xxxx million dollars for a brand new hotel tower. Casino General Manager, Duncan McKenzie, says the time is right to roll the dice. McKenzie says, “We are very bullish in this market. We think tourism as a whole is going to grow here. We got this great baseball stadium coming here. There are other developers talking about bring non-gaming amenities, which is going to increase occupancy and business for the whole tourism base on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.” Many of the usual gamers are excited about the new expansion. The Hard Rock is gambling that added rooms will attract new players and more tourists to the coast. Joe Suarez, a casino-goer, says, “I think it’s wonderful for the players themselves. For the players, we've been staying here for years, and this is going to be another welcomed addition.” The new Platinum Tower features 154 new rooms with 14 swanky suites on the upper floors overlooking the gulf. The kick off to the expansion was scheduled for Wednesday night, but bad weather got in the way, much like in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina delayed the original opening of the casino. The new hotel wing brings the Hard Rock even closer to the Beau Rivage. McKenzie says it's a good thing to have the two casinos so close together. McKenzie also says, “Our customers are going to visit two or three other casinos while they're here. That's just their behavior, and we certainly accept that. It’s wonderful that we have this great relationship with the Beau Rivage where our customers can walk back and forth.” Reservations for the new hotel tower will be available beginning February 9th.
