The Gulfport City Council is asking M.D.O.T. to conduct a traffic survey along Cowan-Lorraine Road. Council members voted unanimously, with the exception of two members who recused themselves, on a resolution to ask for a survey in hopes of putting a traffic light at the intersection. There are currently seven traffic signals along the corridor. City officials believe a new light would save lives. Myles Sharp, Gulfport City Councilman for Ward 5, says, "If any of you have been that way or paid close attention, you can see there's been a considerable patch of development at the East Taylor Road intersection, especially on the east side of Cowan-Lorraine." Cowan road is one of two major thoroughfares in Gulfport leading to I-10.
