The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport was selected to participate in the American Association of Airport Executives Southeastern Chapter’s (A.A.A.E.-S.E.C.) internship program. The Association provides for an intern to work at selected airports in the Southeastern United States. The A.A.A.E.-S.E.C. internship program offers a dollar for dollar match to go towards the cost of having an intern at the airport. Only four intern spots were available for the 10 week program and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport was chosen for one of the spots. “The individual selected for the internship at Gulfport-Biloxi Airport will focus primarily on Airport Operations with exposure to other departments, giving the individual a well-rounded overview of what goes on in all areas of airport operations,” said Ashley Duke, Director of Marketing for the Gulfport-Biloxi Airport Authority.
"The A.A.A.E.-S.E.C. Internship Grant Program provides matching funds to assist its member airports in hosting college students in the region to intern at their airport, benefiting the student intern who gains valuable real world airport management experience, as well as the host airport which gains a motivated, tech-savvy student intern to perform airport management tasks and special projects," said Southeast Chapter President Jeff Gray of Fort Myers, Florida. "It's a win win for everybody, and the program has been a huge success since we implemented it a year ago." The American Association of Airport Executives Southeast Chapter is an organization representing airports in the 12 Southeastern United States dedicated to promoting airport issues, the professionalism of its membership, and scholarship and internship programs benefiting airport management students as well as member airports.
