This year, Gulf Coast Ministries is reporting a lack of donations compared to last year. The monetary and food donations go towards helping the homeless in south Mississippi. To make up the difference, the organization sold more than 250 smoked pork butts Thursday at Bayou View Baptist Church in Gulfport. Barbeque World and Rouse's of Gulfport were among those lending a hand in the preparation of the meals. Some of the BBQ will even be donated to Feed My Sheep to help feed the homeless.
James Bates of Gulf Coast Ministries says, “Our food pantry, our medical clinic, the free medical clinic, the clothes closet for the homeless, our homeless outreach services, all of the money will support our day to day expenses, so providing food, providing medicine, keeping the lights on.” Gulf Coast Ministries is also collecting shoes for the homeless through July 27th.
