The Golden Nugget Casino and Hotel in Biloxi is nearly complete with its major renovation project. Friday, construction workers put the finishing touches on the $100 million casino expansion. The Golden Nugget Casino is looking to make a splash with its new look. Scott King, the Vice President of Resort Operations, says, “I really think it’s a game changer, not just for this property, but for the market in general. We're going bring new visitors to the Coast that have either not been in a while or not ever been before. It’s going to help the Coast. It's going to help Biloxi, and it's going to help the Point.”
East Biloxi was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The Golden Nugget is hoping the expansion will help the area. King also says, “With a 700 room hotel, when we see high occupancy throughout the year... Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays... It's more incentive for other folks to put their money into this part of Biloxi and it’s just contagious.” Casino officials say they had planned to expand the casino since before the Golden Nugget took possession of the property last year. The actual construction work for the expansion has been underway over the past few months.
Melissa Radovich, the Director of Marketing for the Golden Nugget, says, “When the property is complete we'll have over 700 rooms, over 1,200 games, 425 of which are brand new with the latest technology.” The expansion will also include a new pool with a bar customers can swim up to. Overlooking the pool will be the Bubba Gump Seafood Restuarant. Golden Nugget officials say this major expansion is going to add hundreds of jobs to the casino. The grand opening for the new casino gaming area will be May 1st. The pool area is scheduled to open April 26th.
King closes, “What we're going to do is raise the bar for what people expect for gaming on the Mississippi Gulf Coast or the Gulf Coast in general.”
