The first utility pole was carefully dropped into place Monday on Caillavet Street in Biloxi. Mississippi Power was contracted by the city to reroute their utility poles to make way for construction of the new baseball stadium. Crews were set to start drilling Monday morning, but were waiting on the exact location of gas lines near the drilling site. They were finally able to get the first pole in later in the afternoon. This caused brief traffic delays, but Mississippi Power says it will be worth it once all the poles are installed. Steven Dick, the District Manager for Mississippi Power, says, “Through this next week and a half, you'll see that they'll be installing seven new utility poles. They're concrete poles, which will be more pleasing aesthetically over the standard utility poles, plus they'll be more reliable because they're higher.” Mississippi Power will begin the electrical rewiring next month. A few commercial customers may see a short disruption in their electrical service, but will be advised closer to those dates. The seven polls should be installed by next week.
