It was lights out for 200 southern Mississippi residents after a car hit a utility pole. The woman managed to escape injury Friday morning in a one vehicle crash on Highway 49 north of Gulfport that caused a power outage.

The highway patrol says the vehicle was driven by Christine Bradley, 52, of Saucier. She was traveling southbound on Highway 49, when the vehicle ahead of her slowed to make a right turn.

Bradley swerved left, then over corrected and her SUV went off the right side of the road, shearing a power pole in half.

The damage to the pole caused power lines to drape across the highway, causing traffic in both directions to be halted.

The crash happened just after 8:00 Friday morning; all lanes of traffic were finally opened a little after 11:30, and the lights are back on.
