The American Heart Association teamed up with the D'Iberville baseball team to host the first annual ‘Hits for Hearts’ fundraiser tonight. The players are participating in a ‘Hit-a-Thon’, where every ticket sold will benefit the Heart Association. There is also a silent auction and a workshop where kids and adults can practice their C.P.R. skills. The Head Coach of the team, Cragin Gilbert, says this event hits close to home. Gilbert says, "Just to bring awareness to the heart issues that affect many families throughout our country and the world today. Personally, my family has been with the heart and everything. My mother, this summer getting triple bypass. This hits home for me.” The biggest prize of the night is a 2014 Mercedes Benz from Mercedes Benz of South Mississippi and Nationwide Insurance, who both sponsored the event.
