The coyotes can be seen around the dawn and dusk hours. There have been reports of pets in the area coming up missing. Children often play at a soccer field near the old hospital. One local man says he had a close encounter with one of the animals. Anthony Wright, a resident, says, "Walking in the local corner store on Hughes Avenue and on the return back home, a couple of coyotes approached a fence at the old VA laundry and were snarling and growling and trying to get out at me, so my first take was to run." Gulfport Police warn residents not to approach the dangerous animals, but to contact Animal Control.
