Country superstar Darius Rucker will kick-off summer with a free concert at Harrah’s Gulf Coast on Saturday, June 21st, as part of the casino’s opening celebration and introduction of the newly constructed entertainment and boardwalk addition. By bringing such a spectacular talent to the coast, the event will set the tone for the numerous possibilities awaiting the 450,000 square-foot outdoor event venue in future.

The free event will begin with local musicians warming up the crowd for Rucker’s electrifying performance, while guests enjoy multiple food and beverage options from local vendors. The night will come to a climactic conclusion with a captivating fireworks display over the Gulf of Mexico.

Planned for the first day of summer, the concert will mark the resort’s official launch as Harrah’s Gulf Coast and the conclusion of an exciting transformative chapter for the former Grand Biloxi Casino. Attendees should RSVP to the event through Ticketmaster. With a bright future ahead, enhancements to the casino’s guest experience include new dining and entertainment options all while still providing exceptional customer service.

“Our resort has undergone a significant transformation and we wanted to introduce Harrah’s Gulf Coast with an event that would set the tone for what we will offer guests,” said Jonathan Jones, senior vice president and general manager of Harrah’s Gulf Coast. “We can’t think of a better way to do that than with a concert from an acclaimed artist like Darius Rucker. Darius’ music transcends genres. It’s authentic, genuine and it’s undergone an evolution, just like our casino.”

Charleston-born Rucker first attained multiplatinum status as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Hootie & the Blowfish, a rock band formed in 1986 while he attended the University of South Carolina. The band released five studio albums with Rucker as a member and charted six top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, with Rucker co-writing the majority of the songs with the other three members.

Rucker also wrote 10 of the 12 songs on his current album, True Believers, ranging from the feel-good sing-along "Radio" to the sophisticated narrative "Shine." His previous two albums, Learn To Live and Charleston, SC 1966, both topped the Billboard Country Album chart and produced five number one singles. In 2008, he released Learn to Live; the album's first single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," made him the first African American with a number one country song since Charley Pride in 1983.

Recently, Rucker received his third career GRAMMY award for Best Solo Country Performance for his triple platinum selling hit song, “Wagon Wheel,” which spent two weeks at No. 1 and sold over 4 million copies.. Last year, he achieved a childhood dream when he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.

“Country music captures the essence of summer better than any other genre of music,” said Rucker. “I’m excited to be part of such an important time for Harrah’s Gulf Coast and I look forward to being the very first to perform at their new venue.”
