The Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce-Main Street-Tourism Bureau in conjunction with the Ocean Springs Fresh Market will host the 9th Annual Red, White & “Blueberry” Festival at the L&N Depot Plaza on 1st Saturday, June 7th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sponsored by South Mississippi Living, Sun Herald and Allen Beverages, the festival will be filled with blueberry growers and local chefs celebrating the season. Ocean Springs Fresh Market will open at 9 a.m.
Beginning at 10 a.m., blueberry recipes will be displayed and free vanilla ice-cream topped with blueberries and strawberries will be given away, while supplies last. The public may also purchase blueberry bushes, lemonade and more from the local growers at the Ocean Springs Fresh Market.
At 10:30 a.m., spectators can indulge in a cooking demonstration by Anita Nobles Arguelles of Myrtle Sisters, featured at the Saturday Fresh Market. At 11:15 a.m., Jackson County Master Gardeners will speak about the blueberry plant. At 12 p.m., Chef Dani Rodrigues of the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center and Capone’s Italian Ristorante will cook with blueberries. Then, at 1:00 p.m., Chef Alex Perry of Vestige will prepare a blueberry dish for tasting.
In addition, Bayhouse Fancy Flea Market will take part in this 1st Saturday event with antique and furniture vendors showcasing and selling their original goods as well as crafty collectables. Vendors will be set up on Robinson Street from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Bayhouse Fancy Flea Market runs on the 1st Saturday of the month from April to October.
The event is free to the public.
