This week is National Tourism Week, and here on the Gulf Coast, the Convention and Visitors Bureau is saying thank you to visitors. The Tourism Bureau teamed up with two Mississippi welcome centers and the Biloxi Visitors Center to set up tables throughout the week. They're giving out popcorn and the message to "pop in" and see what's happening on the Gulf Coast. The Tourism Board has been hosting tables in welcome centers every year during National Tourism Week because of the integral role of tourism on the Gulf Coast.
Janice Jones of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau says, “They don't realize they're part of an economic engine that actually makes the Mississippi Gulf Coast move forward as a destination. Whether they're stopping and getting gas, whether they eat at a restaurant, or they stay at one of our lodging facilities, they are an economic engine for us, and we'd like to say thank you.” If you'd like to stop by, volunteers will be out at the Hancock and Jackson County Mississippi welcome centers as well as at the Biloxi Visitors Center all week from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
