Six-term incumbent, Thad Cochran, and challenger, Chris McDaniel, are headed to a June 24th runoff in the Republican Senate Primary. With most precincts reporting and an unknown number of mail-in and provisional ballots yet to be counted, unofficial results show McDaniel with a slight lead over Cochran in the three-way race. Neither McDaniel nor Cochran received a majority of the vote, which would be needed to avoid a runoff.
McDaniel says, "We must not stop fighting. This government is worth your defense. This constitution is worth your restoration. We're going to win this fight because we are Mississippians, because we are stronger than them. Rest assured, I am following your lead. God bless you. This is our race."
