Step out of your car and into a port of international food at Café Climb. Thursday night, Climb C.D.C. held its first Ports of Call Food, Music, & Art Festival. The event featured 25 different restaurants and bars at different "port" stations, representing different countries. The theme came from the partnership between the Port of Gulfport and Climb C.D.C. Port Director, Jonathan Daniels, called this event a connection between commerce and community in Gulfport, and while the event is a fun sampling of local cuisine, it’s all for a good cause.
Lori West, the C.E.O. of Climb C.D.C., says, “We are a workforce training institute for opportunity/at-risk youth ages 16 to 26, so all the proceeds generated tonight will go towards programs or scholarships for our young people.” Thursday night’s event also was a ribbon cutting for a new event space at the Climb C.D.C. Climb C.D.C. is a non-profit organization helping young people in job training and pursuing employment. They also have special programs for entrepreneurs and aspiring chefs in their business program and Cafe Climb. Climb's mission is to promote strong communities by providing access to opportunities that inspire self-reliance.
