A Republican candidate for Mississippi's U.S. Senate seat was on the Coast Monday. Chris McDaniel talked about his candidacy and issues with folks in Harrison County. The Laurel native has also accepted a Jackson TV station's invitation to a televised debate with Senator Cochran for later in May. McDaniel's campaign says his opponent, Cochran, has refused to take part in any debates so far. Cochran has not yet responded to this latest request to debate. McDaniel, however, did weigh in on Cochran's constant allegations that McDaniel is out of touch because of a comment he made prior about Hurricane Katrina relief, a response McDaniel says has been taken way out of context.
McDaniel says, "I understand. Desperate times sometimes creates desperate politics, but we're not going to be nasty. We’re not going to be negative. We're going to stay positive. We'll talk about his record, we’ll talk about my record, and we’ll work together to change this state together." The primary will be held June 3rd.
