The cause of what started the Y.M.C.A. fire on Wednesday afternoon in Ocean Springs is still undetermined.

Firefighters responded to the fire around 1 p.m. on Wednesday and put out the blaze that destroyed most of the side building and part of the new construction. Although the fire department is waiting for official word from the state fire marshal, they believe the fire began in the attic of the building.

Jeffery Ponson, the Ocean Springs Fire Chief, says, “What we had, based on the other day, it looked like a lot of the fire was up in the attic of the building, so it could be something up in there that caused it. Right now, we really don't know though. Right now, the fire marshal wasn't able to make it today, so it'll be Monday morning when we go investigate the fire over at the Y.”

No damage was done to the main part of the building and all activities at the Y.M.C.A. are still running.
