The month of November saw a major increase in car sales nationwide, thanks to strong end of the month numbers. Those strong sales numbers were seen here on the Coast as well. Nationwide, sales increased in November by 14 percent and a big reason for that increase was the Thanksgiving holiday. One dealership expects those strong numbers to continue for December. It was the best November for auto sales in six years. General Motors says its November U.S. sales rose nearly 14 percent, with strong demand for pickup trucks, SUVs, and large cars. Meanwhile, Chrysler says its November U.S. sales rose a surprising 16 percent, and Ford says its rose seven percent. Local used car dealerships were also helped by those Black Friday sales and are feeling the carry over into this month. Kendall Lucas of Suncoast Auto Sales says, "It started off great, so I'm hoping it can be a record breaking month for me, but right now it looks real good." Lucas is the top salesperson for Suncoast Auto Sales. He expects the good sales numbers to continue during the holidays. Lucas also says, "This time of year, a lot of people need their money for Christmas shopping and presents, this and that, so we are trying to make everybody’s down payment as low as possible, if any at all."
Gary Anderson, the owner of Suncoast Auto Sales, says the past several months have posted strong sales numbers and they believe this is a sign that the economy is turning around. Anderson says, "Past couple months have been good. It seems that economy is coming back. Black Friday we had a lot of customers here, so we saw a good turn out that day as well." News 25 tried talking to a number of new car dealers today. Sales must be good because we had trouble getting anyone willing to take the time to leave their lot and appear on camera for us.
