Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney reports that six Biloxi firefighters were deployed to Louisville, Miss., Monday morning at 1 as part of Task Force 3, a team of south Mississippi emergency responders under the direction of M.E.M.A.

The team is performing search-and-rescue missions in the tornado-stricken town of about 6,600 residents southwest of Starkville.

“The team of more than 50 firefighters from south Mississippi arrived around 1 a.m. and immediately began their mission,” Boney said. “They are currently searching for a family of three — a woman, a man, and a 9-year-old child. We’re unsure of how long they will be deployed, but the news from the team this morning is that there is heavy damage and a lot of work to be done.”

The Biloxi firefighters are Battalion Chief Steve Strickler, and firefighters Chuck Parker, Shane Breland, Maurice Thornton, Anthony Magee, and Nick Geiser.

In addition, Biloxi Police Capt. Harold Windom, a logistics authority, has been dispatched to work in the emergency operations center in the stricken community.
