Big Weekend for Youth Sports on MS Gulf Coast

Approximately 235 youth basketball and soccer teams from nine states will be on the Mississippi Gulf Coast this weekend to participate in two separate basketball tournaments and one soccer tournament.

The 2nd Annual Gulf Coast Hoop Fest will take place April 25th-27th, 2014 featuring approximately 120 boys teams throughout the Southeastern Region. The hub of the tournament will be at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center Exhibit Hall with six courts under one roof. Additionally, the event will also utilize facilities at Biloxi Middle School (two courts), Gulfport High School and the Gaston Point and Herbert Wilson Community Centers in Gulfport. The N.C.A.A.-certified tournament, including high school and middle school teams, is a college showcase event featuring some of the top high school players in the nation and attract major college recruiters from across the nation. Play will begin Friday at 6 p.m. and continue through Sunday.

In 2013, the event was held at various gyms across the coast and drew 68 teams and attracted recruiters from the University of Florida, Memphis, Oklahoma, U.C.L.A., U.S.C., Arizona, Duke, and many others including junior college coaches. The Youth Basketball of America Super Regioal returns to the MS Gulf Coast and will have over 50 teams in this year’s event. The tournament will be held on Saturday, April 26th through Sunday, April 27th and will be played at Ocean Springs High School (two courts), Ocean Springs Middle School, Ocean Springs Upper Elementary, St. Martin High School and St. Martin Middle School. The Mississippi State South District Soccer Tournament is back on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and will include 85 boys and girls U10 through U19 teams. The event will be held at the County Farm Soccer Complex at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. The tournament will open play on Saturday, April 26th at 8 a.m. and continue through Sunday, April 27th.
