After the Arbor View apartment fire last week, the Big Ridge Baptist Church in D'Iberville received donations from the community for the victims of that fire. Now that it has been over a week since the fire took place and the majority of the victims have what they need, the church is looking to spread the wealth to others in need across the Coast. Starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday night, church volunteers will be bagging the remaining donations to give to other organizations. Raymond Grabert, the pastor at Big Ridge Baptist Church, says, “The donations have overwhelmed the need, and when people are turned away, they seem to get a little upset, but were like, ‘Look, we deeply appreciate it. They deeply appreciate it, but when you have so much, you have to have a stopping point,’ and unfortunately we've gotten to the point where we've had to stop.” One of the victims is still looking for a washer and dryer. Any organization that is interested can pick up bags of donations from the Big Ridge Baptist Church starting Thursday. Women's shelters and veterans organizations have already taken advantage of the opportunity.
