Plans for baseball in Biloxi have been more than ten years in the making. Local baseball star, Barry Lyons, says it was a team effort to get the project this far. Lyons says, "I’m just anxious and thankful the day is going to be here very soon that we can put the shovels in the ground and say this deal is final and prepare for this stadium to come out of the ground so that we can play baseball in 2015." The next step for baseball in Biloxi is for the two part-owners, Tim Bennett and Ken Young to head to Orlando this weekend to rub elbows with Major and Minor League Baseball executives. Lyons also says, "I know they will be there and hoping to move this thing forward and expedite the finalizing of this process." Back at home, Lyons says he thinks the community will have a chance to help choose the nickname for the new team. He says, "I would expect the community’s input will play a large part in determining the nickname of what the Biloxi franchise will be." Lyons says the Chamber and the Biloxi baseball representatives are trying to keep the stadium on the front burner and on people’s minds, so that when the deal is finalized, it will come together quickly. Next week, we will update you on any agreements that happen over the weekend in Orlando.
