News Production Assistant

WXXV-TV, a Morris Multimedia station, has an immediate opening for the position of part-time news
production assistant.

The news production assistant will edit video for our newscast, is expected to master all aspects of
broadcast production, and maintain a high level of awareness of news and current events. The
successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to follow and execute detailed instructions, the ability
to work well under the stress of a live broadcast, while maintaining a good work ethic, energetic
demeanor, and the determination to learn flexibility. The successful candidate will be able to work
holidays and changing schedules
.
DUTIES: Creating graphics for broadcast, operating teleprompter, studio gear, and news control room
tasks, to include audio and video playback, during live broadcasts; supporting all aspects of broadcast
newsgathering and production.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Television experience or work toward a related degree is preferred.

Internships

Do you want to learn more about television broadcasting? News 25 is accepting applications for internships in our news , weather, and production departments. Internships are unpaid positions. College juniors and seniors must be able to receive college credit for the internship from their school. Just because you apply doesn't mean you'll get the internship since we have a limited number of positions open each year.  

NEWS INTERN - News interns will be responsible for a variety of duties. They will be asked to answer the assignment desk phone, take viewer comments and story ideas, make phone calls, and set up interviews, as well as search for file tapes. As part of the internship, they will be offered the opportunity to go out on stories to observe a news crew as well as be given the opportunity to produce a resume tape. Advanced candidates could find themselves reporting and shooting stories. Depending on the intern's education, background, and experience, they may be offered the opportunity to report. The goal will be to leave with at least three on-air worthy stories at the end of the internship.

WEATHER INTERN - Weather interns will work in the Weather Edge, assisting meteorologists by obtaining information and materials for weathercasts. They will possess both an understanding of meteorology and graphics. As part of the internship experience, they will be allowed to create an audition tape. Interns will also have the opportunity to assist in live shots and work in front of a digital green screen.

NEWS VIDEOGRAPHY INTERN - News videography interns will work in the field with the crew and spend time in the editing booth. Interns should possess knowledge of Adobe Premiere. Other duties will include archiving stories on to hard drives and servers. Interns may be asked to locate file tapes for daily stories. Opportunities to attend commercial shoots are possible. Promotion and production possibilities will be determined by candidate’s abilities. The videography intern will also be able to make a resume reel using the station's equipment.

PRODUCTION INTERN - Production interns will work with producers and directors, as well as other department personnel in the planning and execution of television broadcasts. This internship includes editing daily newscasts, floor directing, and equipment maintenance. Working with lighting, audio, and entry level directing are all possible. Interns will work with on-air graphics as well. Interns should also possess knowledge of Adobe Premiere and Photoshop. Interns will also learn the functions of the audio board and will be exposed to the principles of virtual set technology.
