Great Southern Stampede Showdeo
Great Southern Stampede Showdeo presented by Triple J Western Center
The 2008 Great Southern Stampede Showdeo presented by Triple J Western Center will take place in the Main Arena in conjunction with the 2008 Great Southern Stampede. The showdeo will feature area cowboys and cowgirls competing in events such as barrel racing, calf roping, team roping and much more. Children events including calf scramble and goat catching will take place. The excitement gets underway at 6:30 pm with admission free to the general public. Heroes: First Responders in a Ravaged World
The community and all first responders and their families are invited to a special exhibit at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi: Heroes: First Responders in a Ravaged World.

The exhibit opens with a free public reception on Friday, August 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.; there will be refreshments.

This is an exhibit of photographs taken by Lauren Byrd of Biloxi, who documents the personal response by firemen and other responders in East Biloxi during the days just after Hurricane Katrina. Photographs include close-ups of the faces of disbelief and grief as well as solid demonstrations of grit and determination.

The exhibit will be open to the public at the Swetman House in Biloxi through September 11. The Swetman House is located at 1596 Glenn Swetman Street in Biloxi; phone 228.374.5547; www.georgeohr.org. Admission is free. The museum is open seven days a week with the exception of some holidays.



Third Annual Great Southern Stampede
The 3rd Annual Great Southern Stampede will be an eleven-day festival that will cover the Complex Grounds. The Stampede will serve as a tribute to the western lifestyle. The festival will have events ranging from Championship Bull Riding and Calf Roping to Horsemanship Clinics and a Buckaroo Rodeo, as well as Live Music.
