A Service of WXXV FOX 25 23 August 2008, Saturday Buckin’ for Bucks Buckin’ for Buck is a fundraiser that will benefit the Forrest County 4-H will take place in conjunction with the 2008 Great Southern Stampede. The fundraiser will take place with area volunteers riding a mechanical bull for charity. In 2006 more than $6,000 was raised for the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club and during last year’s Stampede over $2,500 was pledged to the American Red Cross. The fundraiser will get underway at 3:30 pm. Admission is free to the general public. For more information call 601-583-7500. Dixie Appaloosa Mavericks (All Breed) Horse Show Dixie Appaloosa Mavericks Horse Show will take place at the Warm Up Arena in conjunction with the 2008 Great Southern Stampede. This is an all breed horse show, so everyone with any kind of horse is welcome to attend and participate. The show will take place from 10 am-4 pm. Admission is free to the general public. E & E Theriot Memorial Calf Roping World Champion Calf Roper Herbert Theriot of Poplarville, MS will host a calf roping event at the 2008 Great Southern Stampede in the Main Arena. The calf roping will be held in memory of Theriot’s father and nephew. This event will have some top named cowboys participating in the event throughout the weekend. The action gets underway on Saturday at 2:00 pm and on Sunday at 10:00 am. Admission to the event is $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for children. For more information call 601-365-9115. Gem & Jewelry Show The Harrison County Gem & Mineral Society is holding its 33rd Annual Gem & Jewelry Show. St. Martin's Community Center, Lemoyne Blvd, Ocean Springs, MS. 9am-6pm Admission $3. Children under 12 Free when accompained by an adult. Oldies Dance Well, It’s time for another "Oldies Dance" at the North Bay VFW Located at 4321 W. Gay Road in D’Iberville, Miss. It is this coming Saturday night, the 23rd of August, from 8:00PM till midnight. The doors open at 7:00PM. And as usual, it is always OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. These Dances are held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month. Third Annual Great Southern Stampede The 3rd Annual Great Southern Stampede will be an eleven-day festival that will cover the Complex Grounds. The Stampede will serve as a tribute to the western lifestyle. The festival will have events ranging from Championship Bull Riding and Calf Roping to Horsemanship Clinics and a Buckaroo Rodeo, as well as Live Music.
