Golden Stirrups I will take place on Thursday and Friday and the last two days of the weekend will feature Golden Stirrups II. Arts Under The Dome Arts Under The Dome Closes with Gypsy Swing Combo Arts Under The Dome wraps up the season with gypsy swing quartet Harmonious Wail on Saturday, April 4 at 7:00 PM. Harmonious Wail’s infectious mandolin-driven music blends an array of styles, most notably Hot Club of France-inspired jazz (originated in the 1930’s by the legendary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli), European gypsy swing, and American jazz standards. In addition to jazz mandolin, the Wail features jazz guitar, bass, percussion, and outstanding vocals. The group has been touring internationally for over two decades and enjoys immense popularity in both the U.S. and in Europe. Music clips can be found on the Harmonious Wail website, www.wail.com. The venue is First United Methodist Church in downtown Gulfport, on 15th Street at 24th Avenue. BELLY-DANCING FESTIVAL BELLY-DANCING FESTIVAL The Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center of Arts & Education in Ocean Springs will host the Gulf Coast Bellydance Festival on Saturday, April 4, 2009. There will be a variety of classes throughout the day, starting at 8:15am in the morning, including Dark Fusion Combos aka Creeping Up Your Combos with MissiHIPPY, Country Line Dancing Bellydance Style with Myra, New Wave Liquid Dance with Tim Davis, Turkish Bellydance taught by a native from Turkey, Finger Cymbals (Zills) with Shamsi, Drums with Shelley, Lovely Layers and Egyptian Flare with LadyM. They’ll be shopping throughout the day, as well as wonderful and unique performances at the show Saturday night starting at 7PM. Show tickets are $10 for adults, and as it is a family friendly event, so children 10 and under are $5.
