FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How Do I Get Better Reception for WXXV?
Purchase a UHF or UHF/VHF outdoor antenna. Most viewers try to use a VHF antenna (rabbit ears) to pick up our UHF signal, and this causes poor or no reception of WXXV. UHF antennas (U-shaped) pick up channels above 14, like FOX 25. Next, go into your TV’s set-up menu and change the setting from “Cable” to “Off Air” or “Antenna”.

What channel is WXXV on?
Our UHF signal can be found on digital channel 48 or 25-1. Cable systems throughout our coverage area in South Mississippi carry our signal on different channels, so please check your local cable listings to locate FOX 25. We will be shortly carried on both Directv and Dish Network as a local station.

Why can't I get a waiver to receive national FOX channels via satellite?
Those who live within our FCC protected “A” or “B” signal area (see map) are able to receive our signal with the proper antenna and thus are automatically denied waivers due to the FCC regulations on importing copywritten material. These regulations are designed to protect our viewing audience and the financial stability of our station. If you cannot receive our station within this area with a UHF antenna, you may then be considered for a waiver.

Who can get a waiver? If you live outside our “B” signal area, you’ll be a granted a waiver.

What's wrong with the sound on your channel?
Audio can be affected by atmospheric conditions. Your cable system’s audio levels may need adjustment as well. Sometimes the audio levels for programs are fed to our station at different levels causing a need for adjustments in our control room. We always work to present the best quality audio and video to our viewers.

When is WXXV going full-power HD?
WXXV is currently broadcasting in full-power digital. Our digital signal can be found on digital channel 48 or 25-1. Check your local cable system to find the channel selection for HD FOX 25.

Are you a news station?
WXXV currently does not broadcast a news product. We do not have a news department, investigative journalists or live broadcast capabilities. We do offer a community calendar on our Web site and accept community event info/press releases via FAX: 228-832-4442 or EMAIL: promotions@wxxv25.com

How do I get a Public Service Announcement On-Air?
WXXV accepts pre-produced tapes of Public Service Announcements for air as our schedule permits. Please contact Leah Mays, Promotions Coordinator at 228-832-2525 or promotions@wxxv25.com and send tapes to P.O. Box 2500, Gulfport, MS 39505. WXXV does not run public service information in crawls along the bottom of the screen unless it is a police or fire emergency.

DIGITAL TRANSITION QUESTIONS

What is the digital TV (DTV) transition?
The switch from analog to digital broadcast television is referred to as the digital TV (DTV) transition. In 1996, the U.S. Congress authorized the distribution of an additional broadcast channel to each broadcast TV station so that they could start a digital broadcast channel while simultaneously continuing their analog broadcast channel. Later, Congress mandated that February 17, 2009 would be the last day for full-power television stations to broadcast in analog.

What is Digital TV?
Digital Television (DTV): Digital TV is a new type of broadcasting technology that will transform television. Because DTV is delivered digitally, the television signal is virtually free of interference. And because DTV is more efficient than analog, broadcasters are able to offer television with improved quality pictures and surround sound. DTV will soon replace today’s analog television.

How do I know whether I need a converter?
If you use “rabbit ears” or a rooftop antenna for TV reception, you probably need a converter. Television sets connected to cable, satellite or other pay TV service do not require converters. Televisions with digital tuners also do not need converters. Take a short quiz at the DTV Transition Web site to see whether the converter box is the right option for your household to make the digital transition. www.dtv.transition.org/index For more answers to frequently asked questions, please visit the FCC‘s FAQ-Consumer Corner website at http://www.dtv.gov/consumercorner
